Google Meet is the successor of Duo, last year. This name changing came with new features, exactly direct call features. Which brought direct calls only for personal users. Enterprise users were unable to make direct calls.
By this update, Google Meet is becoming successful to run direct calls for enterprise users without sending any links. There are still leading meeting based applications at the highest position except Google Meet, namely the Zoom.
Google Meet enables direct calls for enterprise users
Enterprise Workspace customers were unable to make direct 1:1 calls, unlike personal users. To initiate a meeting, they were needed to create a meeting link and share it through a calendar invite, chat, email, or other media.
However, this is now being transformed with the introduction of the feature that allows “cloud-encrypted 1:1 video calls to other users within your organization.” This new capability enables Enterprise Workspace customers to directly initiate a Meet call on their mobile app, which will ring the recipient’s mobile device, similar to how personal users can already do.
The features available in Google Meet calls include in-meeting chat, virtual backgrounds, visual effects, live closed captions, and more, depending on the Workspace edition. However, functionalities like group calls, messages, moments, family mode, and knock knock are not supported.
Additionally, the Google Meet app has undergone a slight redesign. The account avatar/switcher is no longer a part of the search, and a new “Code” shortcut has been added to the bar. Moreover, there is a new and improved “Start a call” screen that offers a more aesthetic experience. The screen allows users to search for contacts or dial at the top, with convenient shortcuts to “Create link” and “Schedule.”
Below that, there is a grid of suggestions instead of a lengthy list. Tapping on a person takes you to a live preview, enabling you to adjust your feed before initiating the call.
In the following weeks, 1:1 enterprise calling will be made available to all Google Workspace customers who have the new app (available on Android and iOS) with a multicolored logo instead of the “original” one.
Google also continuously expanding their market in hardware devices, including the phone making by the name of Pixel. It already brings Pixel 8 series, considered one of the top calm phone.
