The Bangladeshi Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is introducing a new licensing scheme for mobile operators alongside the existing 5G licensing policy.

Under this new scheme, called the Cellular Mobile Service Operator License, operators will be able to provide a total of 14 services, including voice calls, broadband internet, and others. This license, valid for 15 years, requires an annual fee of 10 billion taka.

With the aim of consolidating existing licenses for 2G, 3G, and 4G technologies, the BTRC aims to ensure that all services are unified under one umbrella.

The decision comes as the country’s internet user base continues to grow, with approximately 130 million subscribers, including 118.4 million mobile internet users and 12.8 million broadband users.
