Bangladesh Falls 7 Steps Behind in Mobile Internet Speed and Broadband Connectivity

Recent data from Ookla Speedtest Global Index for January has revealed that Bangladesh has slipped seven places in the mobile internet speed ranking, now standing at 108th position globally. Moreover, the country has also seen a decline in broadband internet connectivity.

In comparison to December, Bangladesh was positioned at 101st in mobile internet speed, but in January, it dropped to 108th place.

During this time, the average download speed for mobile internet was 23.85 Mbps, while the upload speed was 11.36 Mbps.Similarly, in broadband internet, Bangladesh has slipped one step behind from 108th in December to 109th in January.

The average download speed for broadband was recorded at 41.59 Mbps, with an upload speed of 42.60 Mbps.Ookla, a global internet testing and analysis service provider, bases its rankings on millions of results obtained daily through its Speedtest app.

This data serves as the foundation for evaluating global network performance, quality, and accessibility.

Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence recently recognized the leading mobile operators in Bangladesh for their performance. According to the list, Banglalink had the fastest median download speed at 26.74 Mbps, followed by Robi with 24.62 Mbps.

Following this trend, for the fourth consecutive time, Banglalink has been awarded the ‘Ookla Speedtest Award’ for the fastest mobile network in Bangladesh.This decline in internet speed and connectivity highlights the need for continuous efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance internet services in Bangladesh to keep pace with global standards.
