MagicOS 8.0 unveiled in China with AI feature

As planned, Honor unveiled the most recent iteration of its mobile operating system, MagicOS 8.0 in China. This OS introduces platform-level artificial intelligence (AI) and an intent-based user interface (IUI).

Additionally, the brand introduced MagicLM, a proprietary on-device large language model. According to George Zhao, the CEO of Honor, this new software marks a significant advancement in enabling next-generation human-device interaction and ecosystem for users.

In a broad description, MagicOS 8.0 unveiled in four areas of improvements, namely smart connectivity, performance, privacy and security and lastly visual aesthetics.

The intent-based user interface developed by Honor is known as Magic Portal. In simpler terms, Magic Portal is a convenient recommendation feature that allows users to effortlessly switch between different app services by simply swiping.

Magic Portal already provides support for more than 100 popular applications in China. These applications span various categories such as travel, productivity, social media, search, entertainment, shopping, and food. Among the widely-used apps are Baidu Map, Amap, Didi, Bilibili, Douyin, Youku, and Alipay.

Additionally, MagicLM, which boasts seven billion parameters, operates at a platform level, ensuring data processing on the device for enhanced privacy. Honor has collaborated with Qualcomm to ensure smooth and efficient performance on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform.

In addition to its standard natural language understanding capabilities, MagicLM also possesses the unique ability to generate videos. It is the first of its kind in the industry to allow users to pinpoint a specific frame within their videos. Furthermore, it is seamlessly integrated with the voice assistant YOYO.

MagicRing, introduced in MagicOS 7.0, enables the integration of various devices. This remarkable feature now boasts a 25% increase in power efficiency and an astounding 500% improvement in speed. It facilitates seamless communication across devices by supporting eight transmission channels for calls, notifications, keyboard and mouse, files, app windows, and photos.

In terms of privacy, MagicOS 8.0 introduces system-wide Parallel Spaces, allowing users to create private spaces for their files through the Magic Portal. Additionally, a new shake-to-block ads feature has been implemented to eliminate intrusive pop-up ads. Lastly, all AI processing of personal data is conducted securely on the device, ensuring the utmost privacy and security.

We are close to the Honor Magic 6 series launch on January 11. This series of devices will feature MagicOS 8.0 accordingly.
