France has banned the sale of the iPhone 12 due to its high Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)-
Which exceeds the EU limit. The National Frequency Agency (ANFR) found it emitted 5.74 W/kg when in a pocket, above the 4.0 W/kg limit. Apple must address this issue swiftly or potentially recall all units sold in France. France’s digital economy minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, suggests Apple can resolve it through a software update, expected within two weeks.
SAR limits, set by the EU to reduce cancer risks, may lead to repercussions for Apple across EU states. However, this might not significantly impact Apple, as they’ve already sold millions of iPhone 12 units, and the iPhone 15 has since replaced the entire 12 series.
